This project explores the category of children’s books for adults and adult books for children, as it focuses on documenting the bittersweet adventures of a fictional character named Weaver. All characters and props were crafted using hand-made felt. The felt fabric used was created from organic sheep roving and was subsequently dyed, cut and sewn to create the figures, their clothes, the background props and some typographic treatments. Each character and clothing item was made from a different original piece of felt. It was important to truly own the process of creating this work and give it the immediate personal touches that handmade elements provide, thriving on their imperfections. We created all felt fabric, figures, sets, illustration, writing and photography used in the project.

The complete set of materials for this project includes five hand-made characters, a 100-page book and several short stop-motion animations. All work was on display at the Indiana University Bloomington SoFa Gallery in April 2009, as part of Vida’s MFA thesis exhibition in graphic design.
